This school is an 80 hour certification course offered by The
Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy and approved by the Rhode Island Police
Officers Commission On Standards And Training.
The course has been offered, free of charge, to all Rhode
Island police departments for ten years. When extra spots have been
available departments from outside the state of Rhode Island have attended,
also free of charge.
This certification course is modeled after the Northwestern
University "Police Motorcycle Operators Training". The course is designed to be
consistent regardless of location, when taught by Northwestern certified
instructors. Students are held to a strict standard to maintain this consistency.
This school enjoys a very high pass rate while holding
students to the standard of excellence expected of a police motorcycle operator.
Only a licensed motorcycle operator from a law
enforcement agency may attend police training (for non-police training
see civilian training page). Operators train on their agencies motorcycle. Operators
must have all safety equipment in place upon arrival at the course (see
requirements page).
Students are expected to be present for all training, absences are
not allowed.
